Do I need a doctor’s referral to come to physiotherapy?
We do not require a referral for private treatment, unless you are coming in for a WorkSafe BC or an ICBC claim. However, if you wish to submit through your extended benefits, they may require a Dr. Referral. As every insurance company is different, it is best to check with your provider before coming for your first visit.
What should I wear?
If you are receiving treatment for your lower body including lower back, please bring a pair of shorts. If you are female and receiving treatment for your upper body please bring a tank top. **if you are unable to bring shorts or a tank top, we have some you can borrow for the duration of your treatment**
How long will I be in the clinic for?
Our appointments are booked in 30 minute increments, but your length is dependent on the type of injury and the type of treatment that is required. You can prepare to be here anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour.
What should I bring to my first appointment?
Please bring your BC Care card if you are a BC resident, and any extended benefits cards you may have. If you have a WCB or ICBC Claim number, we will need this to start your claim. If you have received any imaging, such as x-ray, CT, MRI, etc.) feel free to bring a copy of the report with you as well.
Do you direct bill my insurance company for my physiotherapy appointment?
We direct bill the following insurance companies: Blue Cross, Chamber of Commerce Group, CINUP, Cowan, Desjardins Insurance, First Canadian, Great-West Life, Industrial Alliance, Johnson Inc., Johnston Group Inc., Manulife Financial, Maximum Benefit, and Sun Life Financial. You will be responsible for the patient co-pay according to your specific plan allowance, which will be determined at the time of treatment. Please contact your insurance company directly if you have queries about your coverage.
I have a BC Care Card; does this cover my physiotherapy appointment?
If you qualify for Premium Assistance through the governments Medical Services Plan, you are eligible for coverage of 10 services per calendar year; this includes but is not limited to physiotherapy, chiropractic, and massage therapy services. We accept billing for Premium Assistance for physiotherapy only. For further information, you can ask the front desk or visit The Medical Services Plan website.
Should I go to physiotherapy if I have been in a workplace accident?
If you have sustained an injury in your workplace, it is important that you inform your work to initiate a claim. You will then need to phone WorkSafe BC (WCB) to provide confirmation of your details, but you are allowed to come for a physiotherapy assessment and treatment before that is complete. A doctor referral is not required for physiotherapy, but be prepared in the case that WCB requests one. Attending physiotherapy early is recommended as it will result in a faster recovery.
Should I go to physiotherapy if I have been in a motor vehicle accident?
If an injury has been sustained from a motor vehicle accident, a claim will need to be filed with ICBC to report that medical issues are present. A doctor’s referral for physiotherapy is not required, however, it is recommended to document the injury for your claim. Attending physiotherapy early is also recommended as it will result in a faster recovery.
